The antithesis of “Who’s on Your Team,” this one tells us that sometimes we need to sweep the deck clean of all those who tie us down or hold us back, and for their benefit, not ours! You know who they are. They want you to succeed and do well – but not too well, and hopefully not “weller” than them! They long to be part of the posse early on, but then feel left out, even jealous, if too much focus is on your growth, regardless of the benefits to humanity and your ability and passion to just do what you do!
My friend Susan Purifoy sent me a little quote about the three reasons people “hate” (a strong word indeed): 1. They hate themselves. 2. They want to be like you. 3. They want to hurt you!
As an inspirational speaker, I try to find the good in everyone, the silver lining on every cloud, the light at the end of the tunnel! But sometimes, you just have to move on.– clean house, thank them for their time, and wish them well. The relationship has exceeded its life expectancy – let it go!
