I got a bill today from my dermatologist. Not an unreasonable things you might say. I’m a fair skinned, “white” guy who takes a lot of sun driving around in my old Chrysler convertible. Also as I age and make appearances on Fox and various venues around the country I want to take care of myself and look as good and healthy as I can. In the last several months it seems like I have spent a few dollars at the dermatologist, where most procedures are “elective’ and not covered by insurance. Since it’s a pay as you go system I was a little surprised to see this balance bill for over $100! It caused me to stop and think. The last time I was at the dermatologist I told the doc I was not seeing the results or improvement I was expecting and that she promised! She was very calm, matter of fact and indicated these things take time. Now let me remind you, this is the dermatologist and not the plastic surgeon. No lifts, tucks, injections or surgeries, just some “skin stuff”, creams and lotions!
What’s the point Bob??
I told the doc at the last visit what I did for a living. I reminded her that I was in the public eye and was also concerned about things like skin cancer. I told her she was “part of my team”. The message or invite or “honor” of being on some one’s team appeared to be lost on her, as a business woman and a service provider. After all, at the end of the day, we all sell something!
It Hit Me
This morning while shaving and looking in the mirror I thought of that bill and the visits and the “team concept” and it hit me! Who’s on your team? Who do you surround yourself with that brings out the best in you? Makes you play at the top of your game? Who do you celebrate and who celebrates you? Who picks you up when you fall down? who is the first or second person you call to share good news or bad?
We Need A Team
You see my friends, we all need a team! We need to surround ourselves with the very best people who can help us become all we are meant to be. Some obvious folks come to mind, particularly this time of year. Your accountant, your attorney, your doctor, your tailor, your hair stylist, your neighbors, your family, friends and loved ones! I could go on but more importantly it’s you who should go on. Take the inventory. Make that your new New Year’s resolution! Let’s go out with the old and in with the new based on the formula I just gave you. Go through that rolodex in your head. Are there folks who always shoot you down, always have a negative thought, looking to knock you off your horse? Maybe 2011 is the year to clean out more than your closet or vow to lose that extra 10 pounds. Maybe it’s the year of “transformation” where you lose 10 negative influences, burn 10 lost bridges, gain 10 admirers, become someone else’s biggest fan!
Take the 10 Challenge
I want you to take the Challenge of 10 my friends.
- Say 10 nice things to 10 strangers every day.
- Make it a goal to meet 10 new people a week.
- 10 more sales calls a day.
- Read 10 more self help or motivational books this year.
- Ask 10 more people to “help you” be the best you that you can be.
I’m excited for you and can’t wait to hear how you did with the Challenge of 10. Email me, call me, let me know how you’re doing and how I can help. I’m here for you, 9 more to go!
To Your Success!
