My friend and strategic marketing genius Luke Harlan has just created a masterpiece of a new website for me to showcase my passion for what has become my life’s work! I always encourage everyone I meet to play to their strengths and delegate their weaknesses. Or, let’s use the sports metaphor and tell everyone we meet to “play up”! We only become better by playing with, learning from, or hanging out with those who are at the top of their game.
It’s a simple equation: surround yourself with those who challenge, stimulate and inspire you, those who don’t allow you to rest on your laurels or sink too deeply into a pool of self pity. Believe me, over the last three years, I have become the poster boy for being knocked down and sometimes not wanting to get up. Every time you turn around, another tsunami seems to have your calling card.
For those of you who don’t know me as of late, I have been defined as a writer, thought leader, part-time voiceover talent, actor and model. I like to say I don’t golf and need a hobby; I might as well do what is near and dear to my heart.
A few weeks ago, I had an audition to host a reality show about people entering the next phase of their lives after suffering a job loss, death, divorce or just chasing their dream. I was SO excited about this gig. It was more than another role for me to perform; it is my life’s work! At age 52, I have lived and breathed this stuff. It’s truly what I am all about. Unfortunately, I wasn’t selected for the role.
It’s an odd business, this acting, modeling, speaking. One never knows the image a producer, director or client has in mind. All you can do is your best. I tell my 4th and 6th grade basketball teams to “leave it on the court” and play the best you can. If you lose, go down swinging, knowing you gave it all you had. It’s the best you can do, and the rest is out of your hands. I like to tell myself, I won’t get every job, just the ones I’m supposed to get. I take peace and solace in knowing God has His plan!
So, my hat’s off to Luke Harlan for creating this wonderful piece: Bob Paff captured in every aspect of media, all in one easy to navigate site. Play to your strengths, my friends, and take a peek at www.bobpafftalent.com, I’ll pay it forward!
